As one of our three great aims, friendship and brotherhood are central to the life of a Sigma Chi. We find this friendship in countless ways, including but not limited to, living together, chapter meetings, weekly brothers events, mixers with other Greek organizations, and parties. The Alpha Kappa chapter of Sigma Chi continues to demonstrate its commitment to scholarship, and is only getting better. In the past year, 19 of our guys made it on the Dean’s List, with several getting perfect grades. We also won the scholarship cup (a coveted trophy awarded to the fraternity with the highest average GPA) this year, which boosted the confidence of our chapter and which we seek to make the standard for years to come. Our scholarship chair, Ethan Scroggins, shared the following:

“We’re not taking our foot off the gas. Instead, we’re building on our momentum by creating new incentive structures and expanding the ways we recognize and honor brothers who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. We’ll be putting a greater emphasis on helping brothers who are trying to better their grades, so that our chapter can more fully live out our standard of being students of fair ability with ambitious purposes”.

A community is not meant to isolate itself, it is meant to bring its good to other communities. Because of this, Sigma Chi is not an isolated group, it is a brotherhood of men that is active in the communities by which we’re surrounded. Jack Hamilton, our beloved philanthropy chair shared the following: “Christ teaches us to do good in the world. As a Christian brotherhood we strive not just to better ourselves, but the people around us as well. We’ve done very well this past year, reaching several milestones, including breaking our chapter’s record for the most money raised for our Derby Days Event. We’re going to keep using this momentum to make our community, college, and fraternity even better next year”. We look forward to continue working in our communities over the next year. This week we’re celebrating brother Owen Popper ! Owen hails from Tampa Florida. He is a Psychology major with a passion for Rhetoric and Media. Owen loves playing music, especially utilizing synthesizers. His favorite philosophers are Wittgenstein and Adorno. Through his zeal for life and limitless enthusiasm, Owen bound the brotherhood together during his tenure as Proconsul. We wish Owen well on his future endeavors, In Hoc brother Popper !🫡

During his time in Sigma Chi, he has served as social chair, philanthropy chair, and president. In his free time, he wins ultramarathons, studies art history, and works as a barista. He is ranked 13th in the country for men’s 100 mile. After college, he is getting married to his longtime girlfriend and chapter sweetheart Penelope Campbell, they hope to settle in beautiful North Carolina. We wish Oliver well in his future endeavors, wherever the trail may lead. In hoc Obeezy!

We’d like to give an Sig Senior Shoutout to brother Christopher Tufaro!

Christopher Tufaro is a senior studying philosophy with a minor in financial management. As a member of Sigma Chi, Christopher served two semesters as the Magister and two semesters as the recruitment chairman.

Outside of Sigma Chi, he has been involved in Catholic Society on the outreach board, Praxis, and the Phi Sigma Tau philosophy honorary. In his free time he leads CanaVox reading groups where he discusses marriage and family topics with high school students. After college he will enter the Navy as an intelligence officer.

We’re beyond proud of Chris and his accomplishments, and can’t wait to watch him pursue excellence in his postgrad career. In hoc Chris!

The race was held over Spring Break but it took me this long to even contemplate how insane that is before posting. Oliver is a Junior and also the Run Club VP for Hillsdale College. Great work @obeez621!
